The Year of the Field: May

May flew by. I had two assignments to hand in and we had visitors, so I was busy. As the month started, I was still wearing jumpers because of the cold, but then all of a sudden, we had a heatwave right at the end of the month, which was very, very welcome, then rather uncomfortable for a couple of days, and then bearable once again. Now, as June begins, I’m back in jumpers once again.

I have been absolutely loving the little wildflower meadow we sowed outside our back door, now in bloom with poppies, corncockles, oxeye daisies, corn marigolds and cornflowers attracting the bees and other insects. I frequently pause on my way past the window, just to gaze at the scene.

We have also been hosting nests for robins, wrens and woodpigeons, and it has been wonderful being able to watch the birds coming and going.

Here are Grandpa’s prints of Suffolk fields in May:

May II: a jay in flight above some flowers. Original lino print available on Etsy.
May III: cows in a field. Original print and blank greetings card on sale in our Etsy shop.
May IV: cows under trees. A blank greetings card with this image is available on Etsy.
