The Year of the Field: February

This week, the snowdrops in the garden are in bloom and the frogs in our pond have been mating. It’s been a while since we saw the sun for more than a few minutes, but I’m getting excited about the advent of Spring! I can see the daffodils growing, and I’m looking forward to the frogspawn, which will appear in about a fortnight.

Life is busy right now, and I’m tired. The weather has been so grey and wet since the beginning of the year, and the news so unrelentingly dismal, that it has been hard to get enthusiastic about things. But now that we’re in February, and I can see the earliest signs of Spring, I am able to feel a glimmer of hope for the coming year.

Here are Grandpa’s four prints for the month of February, from his series entitled “The Year of the Field”

February I: Rain falls on a muddy path. Original print available on Etsy
February II: Rain from the other direction, on the same muddy path. Also available on Etsy
February III: A murmuration of starlings. Find the original print on Etsy
February IV: Birds on a chequered field. Find it on Etsy
