The Year of the Field: December

December, the end of the calendar year. It can be a month full of busyness and stress, and it can also bring moments of comfort and joy. I love to indulge in a hot chocolate with the fire on, after coming in from the cold. The skies are mostly grey so my heart sings when I notice a rare spell of sunshine on a cold morning. It’s a month of dark evenings, made beautiful by Christmas lights, both inside and outside. I find a walk in the woods or a potter in the garden can help to lift the spirits during this solstice season.

This year, it feels as if nature has forgotten it’s officially winter; song thrushes and other birds sing near our house, and daffodils are blooming in some places near by… as if heralding Spring already.

Anyway, here are Grandpa’s prints for this month from his series, “The Year of the Field”

December I: A colourful owl in flight – original print available on Etsy
December II: Crows roosting at sunset
December III: Lapwings in flight above a field
December IV: Bullfinches feeding on berries – available in our Etsy shop as a greetings card and an original print
